Iran has launched a wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting US-linked military facilities across the Middle East following fresh American strikes on Iran.
The renewed exchange marks one of the most significant escalations between Washington and Tehran in weeks.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched ballistic missiles at US military targets in Jordan, including a US Marine facility near Aqaba. Iran also claimed attacks on US facilities in Iraq, while strikes involving missiles or drones were reported in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Jordan’s Armed Forces said 13 Iranian ballistic missiles entered its airspace, with 10 intercepted and destroyed. The remaining three fell in remote areas, with no deaths or injuries reported.
Although the IRGC claimed US personnel were killed, two US officials told Reuters that initial assessments showed no US casualties in Jordan.
Bahrain said its air defences intercepted Iranian drones, while Kuwait’s military said its air defence systems were responding to missile and drone attacks.
The Iranian retaliation followed a new wave of US strikes against IRGC targets in southern Iran.
US Central Command said the operation targeted air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communications infrastructure. Washington said the strikes followed attempted IRGC attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel in the region.
Iranian authorities said a US strike also hit a residential building where a wedding celebration was taking place in Sirik County in southern Iran.
Initial reports from the Iranian Red Crescent said four people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 wounded. Later Iranian reports put the death toll at five and said dozens had been injured.
US President Donald Trump had warned Iran against retaliating, threatening substantially stronger US strikes if Tehran responded. (Newswire)
