A 53-year-old suspect has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly spreading false information on social media claiming that there is no fuel in Sri Lanka.
Police said the misinformation was aimed at discouraging foreign tourists, damaging the tourism industry, and creating public unrest.
The suspect, a resident of Wattegama, is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the CID. (Newswire)
