
The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 08.30 am today (14) has been reported in the Puttalam District, recording 256.2 mm, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Met Department has further issued an advisory for heavy rain in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts today.
Per the advisory, effective until 08.30 am tomorrow (15), red alerts have been issued to 11 districts and amber alerts to 14 districts.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts during this period.
The Met Department states that the low-pressure area, located in the northeast of Sri Lanka, persists, but is expected to move away from Sri Lanka and gradually weaken in the next 36 hours. (Newswire)
