Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered that the verdict in the case over the forcible removal of Pushpika de Silva’s crown at the  ‘2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World’ pageant will be announced on October 17.

The case involves charges against former titleholder Caroline Jury and model Chula Pathmendran, who are accused of storming the stage during the final at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, assaulting Pushpika de Silva, and forcibly removing her crown moments after she was declared winner.

When the matter was called before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (22), the Chief Magistrate confirmed that all evidence and hearings had already been completed on earlier trial dates, paving the way for the final ruling.

The incident, which drew widespread public attention in 2021, centered on allegations that the two suspects disrupted the pageant, causing injury to Pushpika de Silva.

The court has now set October 17 as the date for delivering its judgment. (Newswire)
