The 11th National Accident Prevention Week commenced today (July 06) and will run until July 10, with the Ministry of Health’s Non‑Communicable Diseases Unit implementing the program under the guidance of the National Committee on Prevention of Injuries (NCPI).

Launched annually from the first Monday to Friday of July, the initiative aims to raise public awareness on accident prevention and promote a safer future for Sri Lankans.

This year’s program is being carried out with the cooperation of ministries, departments, and institutions engaged in related tasks.

The week’s schedule is as follows;

  • July 06 – Road Accident Prevention Day
  • July 07 – Workplace Accident Prevention Day
  • July 08 – Accident Prevention in Homes and Elders’ Residences Day
  • July 09 – Drowning Accident Prevention Day
  • July 10 – Accident Prevention in Schools, Preschools, and Day Care Centers Day

Authorities said the program will involve public awareness campaigns, inspections of accident‑prone locations, and the introduction of short‑, medium‑, and long‑term measures to minimize risks.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that these efforts will not be limited to Accident Prevention Week alone, but will continue long‑term in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. (Newswire)
