Opposition MP Ajith P. Perera has criticised the government over power interruptions, questioning the Energy Minister’s claim that no power cuts had taken place.
Ajith P. Perera said the Energy Minister had told Parliament that there had been no power cuts, despite power interruptions reported yesterday.
“Yesterday there was no power cut, the Minister told Parliament. But while the Minister doesn’t know, we know there was a power cut yesterday. This Minister is not suitable to hold the position. This is the official record,” he said.
He also shared what he described as an official system report, which noted that system demand was managed by implementing manual load shedding of 33kV feeders from 6:31 pm to 10:59 pm due to inadequate generation.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody stated that the government has not implemented any scheduled power cuts despite the ongoing energy challenges.
He said that power interruptions experienced at times were due to system breakdowns and not planned power cuts. (Newswire)
