
Police have arrested two women in connection with the alleged attack to a lawyer’s vehicle following a court appearance in Nugegoda on Friday (30).
The arrests were made on Monday (2) by officers from the Nugegoda Divisional Crime Investigation Division in the Puhulwella area of the Hakmana Police Division.
The investigation stems from a complaint lodged with the Mirihana Police regarding an incident on Jan. 30. According to the complaint, two lawyers traveling in a car after appearing before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court were intercepted near the Nugegoda Gamisabha Junction. A group allegedly blocked the road, surrounded the vehicle, issued death threats and attacked the car, causing damage.
Following the complaint, three police teams, including officers from the Mirihana Police, launched investigations into the incident.
Police said the two suspects, aged 31 and 55, are residents of the Puhulwella area. They were arrested on charges of being members of an unlawful assembly, unlawful obstruction, criminal intimidation and causing damage to property.
The suspects were produced at the Mirihana Police Station and are scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on Feb. 3. Further investigations are continuing, police said. (NewsWire)
