Man arrested for aiding escape of Akuregoda lawyer murder suspect

A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assisting the main suspect in the Akuregoda double murder case, involving the shooting of a lawyer and his wife, to obtain a forged passport to flee overseas.

According to Police, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday (07) by officers of the Western Province South Crime Division.

Investigations have revealed that the arrested individual had allegedly provided his fingerprints to facilitate the preparation of a forged passport for the main suspect, enabling him to travel abroad using fraudulent documentation.

The arrested suspect is a resident of Minuwangoda.

The investigation relates to the fatal shooting of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda, Thalangama, on February 13, 2026.

The Western Province South Crime Division is conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
