
A retired Chief Legal Officer of the Ministry of Health has been arrested on corruption charges and remanded until May 5, 2026.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption confirmed that its officers arrested the suspect on Tuesday (21) at around 3.45 pm, after investigating a complaint.
According to the Bribery Commission, while serving as a legal officer, the suspect prepared three lease agreements to extend the rental period of the Medi House building leased to the Ministry of Health.
The suspect allegedly demanded Rs. 4,134,887 as preparation fees, accepted Rs. 2,000,000, and sought the balance.
From the remaining amount, the suspect is accused of cashing a cheque worth Rs. 500,000 issued under the name Medi House Private Company from an account at the People’s Bank
The suspect was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and ordered to be remanded until May 5. (Newswire)
