The Department of Meteorology says the low-level atmospheric disturbance is moving away from Sri Lanka, due to which its influence is expected to gradually decrease.
As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces today (16), while fairly heavy falls about 75 mm are likely at some places.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Uva, Eastern and North central provinces and in the Mullaittivu district after 1.00 pm.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in the other sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be South-westerly or Variable. Wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota will be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
