Twenty-seven children from Grandpass who had previously dropped out of school have been successfully reintegrated into the education system following a special intervention by the Grandpass Police Community Policing Unit. Ahead of their formal enrollment, the children and their guardians were invited to the Grandpass Police Station on November 1, 2026, where they were provided with guidance, encouragement, and refreshments during a session led by Superintendent of Police (Colombo North) Meedin alongside local police officers.

The initiative builds on earlier efforts by Grandpass Police Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Chief Inspector Dissanayake and Community Policing Unit OIC Police Sergeant Samarawickrama who previously facilitated the school enrollment of nearly 30 out of school children across Colombo city.

Police officers actively identify vulnerable children at risk of misconduct and refer them to the unit, while private sector supporters Praveen and Gunaratne of AEC Property (Pvt) Ltd assisted the cause by donating essential school supplies. Authorities urge the public to report any out of school children to their local police stations to ensure they are returned to formal education. (Newswire)
