A new daily train service between Polgahawela and Peradeniya has been introduced from today (12), providing transport facilities for schoolchildren and other commuters travelling along the route.

According to the Railway Department, the new train will operate daily in both directions between Polgahawela and Peradeniya, with the primary objective of facilitating travel for school students and regular passengers.

The Department stated that the new service has been introduced following the restoration of train operations between Rambukkana and Gampola on the Up-country railway line, which had been disrupted by Cyclone Ditwah.

Train services along the affected section resumed on October 2 and have since been operating as usual.

The Railway Department noted that the new service was introduced alongside the restoration of operations to meet the transport needs of passengers and schoolchildren. (Newswire)
