Foreign Tourist Rescued From Drowning at Mirissa Beach

A foreign national was rescued from drowning at Mirissa beach in southern Sri Lanka on December 20, police said.

The incident occurred in the Kotavila police area when the tourist was caught in a strong current while swimming. Officers attached to the Mirissa Police Life Saving Unit, who were on duty at the beach, rescued the individual and provided first aid.

The officers involved were Police Sergeant Ajanta (59416), Police Constable Dissanayake (96986) and Police Constable Kahawatta (105268).

The rescued individual was identified as a 25-year-old national of Georgia. Police said the tourist did not sustain serious injuries. (Newswire)
