The Cabinet has approved the award of a contract to upgrade passenger facilities at the Colombo Fort Railway Station to MAGA Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.

The project includes the removal of existing footbridges at the Maradana and Bambalapitiya ends and the construction of new bridges with access for persons with special needs.

It also covers the development of new ticket counters integrated with the bridges and the construction of a three-storey service building, the government said.

Cabinet approval for the project was initially granted on June 2, 2025. Subsequently, bids were called under the national competitive bidding process to select a suitable contractor.

Four institutions submitted bids, and following evaluation, the Standing Procurement Committee recommended awarding the contract to M/s. MAGA Engineering (Pvt) Ltd as the lowest responsive bidder.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to award the contract at a cost of Rs. 2,162.64 million, excluding taxes. (Newswire)
