Former parliamentary deputy secretary-general Chaminda Kularatne has filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal challenging the decision to suspend him from work.

The writ names 14 respondents, including the Speaker, the Secretary of Parliament, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake.

Kularatne was suspended from his duties with effect from 23 January. The suspension was decided by the Parliament Staff Advisory Committee, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, and is reportedly linked to alleged irregularities in Kularatne’s appointment.

On 2 February, the suspended deputy secretary-general of Parliament lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), alleging corruption by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. (NewsWire)
