A comprehensive tourism promotion plan covering three zones of the Central Province is being prepared, with the aim of developing biodiversity‑rich and culturally significant sites into attractive destinations.

The initiative was discussed recently at the Central Province Governor’s Office under the chairmanship of Governor Professor S.B.S. Abeykoon, and attended by UNDP National Programme Manager Ashoka Ajanta.

The Central Provincial Council has identified several locations to be promoted as tourist attractions, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Department of Tourism jointly implementing the plan.

Areas recommended include Minipe, Panwila, Ududumbara, Medadumbara, Dambulla, Ambagamuwa, Norwood, Laggala‑Pallegama, and Maskeliya.

Officials said the program is expected to strengthen tourism across these zones, with local government institutions playing a key role in carrying out promotional activities. (Newswire)
