Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely in some places of Sri Lanka today, while showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places elsewhere in the afternoon or night, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern and Eastern provinces and the Polonnaruwa district after 1.00 pm.
Showers may occur in coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces and the Puttalam district in the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places over the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times.
