The Department of Railways has announced a new initiative to provide special assistance to persons with disabilities when travelling by train.
General Manager of Railways, Dhammika Jayasundara, stated that under the program, railway staff will assist passengers with disabilities when boarding and disembarking trains.
Passengers are required to inform railway authorities in advance by calling the hotline 1971, in order to receive this assistance.
The new support system will officially be implemented from June 15. (Newswire)
