A series of fatal road accidents reported across several police divisions on Friday left a 14-year-old boy and several others dead, police said.
In one incident, a 14-year-old boy from Kothalawala, Kaduwela, died after a three-wheeler veered off the Colombo–Avissawella road in the Wellampitiya area and crashed into a streetlight pole during the early hours of Friday. The driver lost control of the vehicle, police said. The three-wheeler driver was arrested and investigations are ongoing.
In separate accidents reported from Lunuwila, Middeniya and Wattala, four more people, including two youths aged 21 and 25, were killed when motorcycles skidded off roads and collided with roadside structures. In the Wattala incident, both the rider and pillion passenger of a motorcycle died after crashing into a shop along the Hendala–Elakanda road.
Police said investigations into all the accidents are continuing. (Newswire)
