Sri Lanka plans to deploy 1,000 Sri Lankans for home-based caregiving jobs in Israel in 2026, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said, with more than 100 caregivers already sent during the first two weeks of the year.

According to the SLBFE, 107 Sri Lankan caregiving professionals were deployed to Israel during the first two weeks of 2026 under a government-to-government arrangement. The bureau said the programme is continuing as planned for the rest of the year.

Eligible applicants include those who have completed a caregiving training course conducted by the SLBFE or an SLBFE-registered training institute and obtained an NVQ Level III certificate, or those with a minimum of 11 months’ experience in the nursing profession. Applicants must be between 25 and 45 years of age and must have sat for the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level examination.

The bureau said applicants are also required to have a good command of English, including completion of the English language course conducted by the SLBFE. Successful candidates will be granted a five-year valid visa and can earn a monthly salary exceeding Rs. 600,000, according to the bureau.

The employment opportunities are provided under a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Sri Lanka and Israel. Under the agreement, a total of 2,656 Sri Lankans have so far secured caregiving employment in Israel.

The SLBFE said the recruitment process is carried out exclusively through the Sri Lankan government, in coordination with Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA). It warned that caregiving jobs in Israel cannot be obtained through private agencies or individuals.

The bureau urged the public not to hand over money or passports to third parties, stressing that all recruitment for Israeli caregiving jobs is conducted only through official government channels. (Newswire)
