The Katugastota pedestrian underpass, constructed at a cost of Rs. 62 million, was opened to the public on Thursday (29), Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena said.

The project, which had previously been abandoned midway through construction, has now been completed and opened for public use.

According to the Deputy Minister, the underpass will provide a safer road crossing for approximately 5,000 students attending Sri Chandananda Buddhist College and St. Anthony’s Girls’ College.

The facility will also benefit residents and other pedestrians who use the busy road daily.

It is expected to help reduce traffic congestion in the area, particularly during school opening and closing hours, while improving pedestrian safety.  (Newswire)
