A young driver has been arrested after Police detected a group of cars allegedly being driven recklessly near Independence Square in Colombo on August 29.
According to Police, four cars were observed being driven in an unsafe manner in the area during the afternoon.
Cinnamon Gardens Police attempted to intercept the vehicles, but three of the cars reportedly fled the area.
Police managed to stop and seize one vehicle and arrested its driver, who is reported to be around 20 years old.
The suspect is to be produced before a Judicial Medical Officer to determine whether he had been under the influence of drugs.
Police said the vehicle will also be referred to a motor vehicle examiner to determine whether it is a high-powered vehicle and to conduct further checks.
Cinnamon Gardens Police are conducting further investigations, including efforts to identify the other vehicles that fled the area. (Newswire)
