Sri Lanka Police has issued a public advisory warning citizens about methods used by criminals to rob money, gold, and other valuables through theft, abduction, and force.
The advisory emphasizes vigilance to prevent falling victim to such crimes.
The Police noted that despite continuous efforts to maintain public safety, negligence or lack of awareness has led to serious incidents, including recent cases in Kokkadichcholai, where two women were abducted, drugged, and robbed of jewellery, with one being murdered and another narrowly escaping.
Analyzing this incident and similar ones, the Sri Lanka Police requests the public to pay strict attention to the following facts and act with vigilance in daily life:
- Criminals approach people in public places or on public transport in a very friendly manner.
- They pretend to be close friends to gain trust.
- They give toffees, chocolates, other food, drinks, or water mixed with intoxicating substances.
- They use poisonous sprays, chilli powder, or similar substances to overpower individuals.
You are advised to be cautious of these situations to avoid becoming a victim.
- Be careful when accepting transport facilities offered by strangers on highways or in public places.
- Never consume food or drinks given by strangers under any circumstances.
- Be alert if any person or group tries to come unnecessarily close to you.
- Pay close attention to your money, gold, and valuables.
- If you observe any suspicious person, vehicle, or place where a crime seems to be happening, immediately inform 119, 118, or the nearest police officer or citizen.
The Sri Lanka Police stressed that acting wisely with proper understanding of these warnings is essential to prevent crime. (Newswire)
