India’s space agency, ISRO, has launched its first Earth observation satellite into a higher geosynchronous orbit, about 36,000 kilometers above Earth.
The EOS-05, also known as GISAT-1A, was launched aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota.
Described as India’s “eye in the sky,” the satellite is designed to provide frequent images of large areas for disaster monitoring, agriculture and forestry.
EOS-05 replaces GISAT-1, which failed to reach orbit following a launch in 2021.
The satellite has a planned mission life of 10 years. (Newswire)
