The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) has announced a one-day strike across all state universities tomorrow (30), over several unresolved issues affecting the university system.

FUTA General Secretary, Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe, said the trade union action will be carried out across the entire state university system.

He said the strike is being launched in response to several issues, including a shortage of university lecturers, excessive workloads placed on existing staff, inadequate resources and a lack of sufficient physical facilities.

Illangasinghe further stated that FUTA has organised a protest march tomorrow, coinciding with the strike.

He said the trade union action aims to draw public attention to the challenges faced by Sri Lanka’s state university system and the need to address these concerns. (Newswire)
