Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Sajith Premadasa, has extended his congratulations to the United National Party (UNP) on its 79th anniversary.
In his message, the opposition leader highlighted the party’s historical role, noting that D. S. Senanayake founded the UNP through the experience gained from the Ceylon National Congress, which had significantly contributed to Sri Lanka’s independence struggle.
Sajith emphasized that the UNP brought together various communities, including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, and Malays, to work towards a common national goal.
He further noted that the UNP’s service to the country has been immeasurable and urged all parties to act together to protect democracy in Sri Lanka today.
