US President Donald Trump removed an image from his Truth Social account depicting himself as a Christ-like figure after the post sparked widespread backlash across the political and religious spectrum.
The AI-generated image showed Trump dressed in robes, appearing to heal a sick man while surrounded by patriotic symbols such as the US flag, eagles and military imagery. The post was shared shortly after Trump criticised Pope Leo XIV over the Iran conflict and foreign policy.
The image quickly drew criticism from religious leaders, political figures and even some of Trump’s supporters, with critics describing it as inappropriate and blasphemous. Some conservative commentators also urged Trump to remove the post.
Following the backlash, the image was later deleted from Trump’s Truth Social account, according to multiple reports. The controversy comes amid escalating tensions between Trump and Pope Leo XIV, after the pontiff criticised the ongoing Iran war and called for peace and dialogue. (Newswire)
