Showers are expected in some provinces today, with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm likely in the Western province and the Galle and Matara districts, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Central, Uva, North-central and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, Northcentral, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle and in Batticaloa to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
