Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya brought Sri Lanka’s ancestral wisdom on sustainable food systems to the global stage in Bhutan, delivering the keynote address at the inaugural Global Conscious Food Systems Summit 2026.
Held on Monday (01) at Dungkar Dzong, the Summit was jointly hosted by the Royal Government of Bhutan, the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the theme “Activating the Heart of Food Systems Transformation.”
Addressing the gathering under the sub‑theme “Rising to the Moment: Igniting Consciousness to Address the Polycrisis,” the Prime Minister expressed pride in Sri Lanka’s national heritage, shaped by generations who maintained harmony with nature in food production, storage, preservation and consumption.
She stressed that traditional agricultural practices were founded on sustainability and balance, designed to work with nature rather than against it.
Following her keynote, PM Amarasuriya joined Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay in a panel discussion on “Conscious Leadership – The Art of Facilitating Transformation for a More Just and Regenerative World.”
She later engaged with local and international media at a press conference, responding to questions on food security, agricultural practices, women’s employment, and sustainable development.
Her participation provided Sri Lanka with a vital platform to share perspectives on sustainable food systems, inclusive development, and the role of conscious leadership in addressing interconnected global challenges. (Newswire)
