Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon, many employed as domestic helpers under strict conditions, have used their only day off to prepare and distribute food to families displaced into tents and the streets.

According to reports, despite earning modest wages and living within employer households, the workers pooled small savings from their salaries to buy rice, cheese, onions, and water.

They cooked meals together before distributing them across Beirut to those affected by Israeli occupation attacks.

“This could be us,” one worker explained in a video message, highlighting why they chose to help despite their own hardships.

Sri Lanka is among the main source countries for migrant domestic labour in Lebanon, and the workers’ initiative has drawn attention for its compassion and solidarity with Lebanese families forced from their homes. (Newswire)
