Widespread thundershowers and heavy rains exceeding 75 mm are expected across most parts of Sri Lanka over the next 36 hours, the Department of Meteorology announced in its latest forecast issued at 4PM today (November 6).

Showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in most areas of the island after 1PM. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in the Northern and Eastern provinces during the morning.

The Meteorology Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Additionally, misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.

Meanwhile, a special weather bulletin issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre warns multi-day naval and fishing communities in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal regarding a developing low-pressure system between November 11 and 15, advising them to stay vigilant. (Newswire)
