Bribery: Former SriLankan Airlines Chairman held over Rs. 2.8 million loss

Former chairman of SriLankan Airlines Nishantha Wickramasinghe was arrested on March 24, 2026, by investigators of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of corruption.

According to the commission, the suspect is accused of instructing officials to use funds belonging to SriLankan Airlines to settle fuel bills of the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The payments were allegedly made in violation of established circulars by exerting influence over officials.

The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between 2011 and 2015. The Bribery Commission said that the actions caused a financial loss of Rs. 2,853,935 to the government and conferred an undue benefit to a third party.

The suspect was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and granted bail. (Newswire)
