A special dengue eradication program conducted from 19 to 24 May across 15 districts has led to the inspection of 128,824 premises, the Ministry of Health announced.
Among the inspected sites were 119,677 homes, 257 schools, 304 other educational institutions, 789 government offices, 5,025 private institutions, 700 construction sites, 195 factories, 263 public places, and 514 religious premises.
Out of these, 31,145 premises were identified as having potential mosquito breeding sites, and 6,077 of them had active mosquito larvae. Red notices were issued to 3,916 locations, while legal action was initiated in 1,470 cases.
The program was implemented under the directives of Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, in response to the rising risk of dengue due to the active southwest monsoon.
The Ministry has urged the public to regularly inspect and clean their premises at least once a week to prevent mosquito breeding, emphasizing the need to sustain the progress achieved.
The military, police, Civil Security Department, and various volunteer organizations provided vital support during the campaign. (Newswire)
