Rain expected in several districts today

The prevailing showery and windy conditions over the southwestern parts of Sri Lanka are expected to continue, according to the Department of Meteorology.

As such, showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today.

A few showers may occur in the North-western province. Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. 

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, the Central, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, showers are likely at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. 

Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
