A national ‘Peace Children’s Clubs’ programme has been launched for children living in urban apartment complexes, with the aim of fostering positive attitudes, empathy and social responsibility.
The programme was launched yesterday (17) at the Mihijaya Sevana housing complex in Modara, Colombo 15, under the Ministry of Justice and National Integration.
The programme is jointly implemented by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, the Urban Settlements Development Authority and the Colombo District Secretariat.
It aims to promote trust, love, empathy and brotherhood among children from different ethnic, religious and social backgrounds, while also encouraging respect for the law and discouraging corruption and misconduct.
The programme will be implemented at five urban housing complexes in the Colombo District during 2026, including Mihijaya Sevana, Randiya Uyana, Muwadora Uyana, Sirimutu Uyana and Laksanda Sevana.
A key objective is to help children who have dropped out of school or are not attending school to return to formal education. (Newswire)
