Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Sri Lanka today, while a few showers may occur elsewhere, according to the Department of Meteorology.
As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and the Northern, North-central, Southern and North-western provinces and the Trincomalee and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, the Naval and Fishing communities have been warned not to venture into some sea areas until further notice, due to strong winds and rough seas.

Winds will be south-westerly in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 40-50 kmph, and wind speed may increase up to 60-70 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph, and wind speed may increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambanthota will be very rough at times, and Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu will be rough at times. The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 3.0 m in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota (this is not for land area).
