Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10, India’s Ministry of Defence announced.
During the visit, Singh is scheduled to hold consultations with Sri Lankan leaders on a range of issues and interact with members of the Indian community in Colombo.
He will lead a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from India’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs.
The Indian Defence Ministry said the visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly cooperation in maritime security and defence.
India said its relationship with Sri Lanka is built on longstanding civilisational ties and cooperation covering regional security, defence, economic and trade relations, as well as strong people-to-people links.
The ministry also highlighted India’s assistance to Sri Lanka during the economic crisis and its support following Cyclone Ditwah in 2025 as examples of New Delhi’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.
The visit comes amid continued efforts by the two countries to deepen their maritime and defence partnership in the Indian Ocean region. (Newswire)
