540 arrested in islandwide crime and drug crackdown

Police said 27,615 individuals were inspected yesterday (May 8) under ongoing crime and narcotics prevention operations conducted islandwide.

A total of 540 people were arrested following inspections carried out in connection with criminal and drug-related offences.

Among those arrested, 21 individuals were directly identified in relation to criminal activities. Police also arrested 248 warrant suspects, including 134 individuals with open warrants.

In addition, 76 drunk drivers and 49 individuals for reckless driving offences were taken into custody.

Police further said that 4,146 people were apprehended for various traffic violations.

Under anti-narcotics operations conducted yesterday alone, police seized 1 kilogram and 513 grams of heroin, along with 4 kilograms and 467 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ICE.”

A total of 817 suspects linked to drug-related offences were arrested during 796 raids carried out across the country yesterday, police said. (Newswire)
