A bus driver and conductor have been assaulted by a group of six individuals who blocked their bus using motorcycles in the Nagas Junction area of Kalutara.
According to Police, the incident occurred last evening (27) when the luxury bus, which had travelled from Colombo to Kalutara, was being taken home for parking after dropping off passengers.
Six individuals who arrived on three motorcycles had reportedly blocked the road, preventing the bus from proceeding, before physically assaulting the driver and conductor.
The assault was captured on a CCTV camera installed inside the bus.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident may have stemmed from an earlier dispute in Moratuwa, where the bus conductor had refused to allow an individual to board the bus while it was travelling towards Kalutara.
The conductor, who sustained injuries in the assault, has been admitted to the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital, with hospital sources indicating that his condition is somewhat serious.
The Kalutara North Police have launched investigations following a complaint regarding the incident and are taking steps to identify and apprehend those involved. (Newswire)
