More than 300 illegally imported latest-model smartphones, including Apple iPhones, with an estimated value of around Rs. 50 million, have been seized during a raid carried out at a shop in Colombo’s Liberty Plaza.
Police said the operation was conducted by the Walana Anti-Vice Squad, leading to the arrest of one suspect in connection with the illegal sale of the devices.
The seized stock included over 300 high-end smartphones that had allegedly been brought into the country without following legal import procedures.
Police said the raid comes as authorities have intensified joint enforcement efforts with Sri Lanka Customs to curb the illegal import and sale of electronic goods, including smartphones.
The suspect and the seized smartphones have been handed over for further investigations and legal action. (Newswire)
