Police to take action against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke

Police will take strict legal action against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Management and Road Safety, W. P. J. Senadheera, said.

He said operations will be carried out in coordination with motor vehicle inspectors to identify such vehicles, conduct inspections and take them into police custody where necessary.

The move is aimed at controlling rising incidents of vehicles emitting high levels of smoke on public roads, he said.

Police have also introduced a mechanism for the public to report such vehicles via WhatsApp on 070 3500525 by sending the vehicle number or video evidence. (Newswire)
