Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya attended the launch of a book on veteran politician and former MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister described Nanayakkara as an important figure in Sri Lanka’s left-wing political history, saying that while they had agreed on some issues and differed politically on others, she had always respected his contribution to left-wing politics.
She also recalled serving in Parliament alongside Nanayakkara and sharing conversations with him about his long political career and experiences.
“Future generations should know about figures like him who made an impact on Sri Lankan politics,” she said.
Vasudeva Nanayakkara also served as a Cabinet minister in the SLPP government under former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He is also a relative of Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara and has recently expressed support for the NPP government in several issues (Newswire)
