
Showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today (09), while mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. A few showers will occur in the North-western province.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.
Meanwhile, a few showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo.
Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.
The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 3.0 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. (Newswire)
