Dengue cases in Sri Lanka surge past 63,000 in 2026

Sri Lanka has recorded 63,835 dengue cases so far this year, with 42 deaths reported, according to data from the National Dengue Control Unit. The case fatality rate stands at 0.07 percent.

The latest data shows that the highest monthly spike was in June, with 21,543 cases, followed by May (8,590) and July (8,451) as of midnight on July 7.

District‑level data shows Colombo (12,968 cases) and Gampaha (12,929 cases) remain the hardest hit, together accounting for over 40 percent of the national total. 

Other high‑risk districts include Matara (4,556), Kalutara (4,013), Kandy (4,003), Ratnapura (3,734), and Galle (3,719).

By province, the Western Province dominates with 33,572 cases (52.6%), followed by Southern (10,066), Sabaragamuwa (5,462), and Central (4,783). The Northern and North Central provinces reported fewer than 1,000 cases each.

Authorities have identified 142 high‑risk MOH areas in Week 26, with an average of 2,604 new cases reported daily. (Newswire)
