
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath left for Geneva this morning (7) to participate in the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which begins tomorrow (8), the ministry announced.
During the session, Minister Herath is scheduled to deliver a special statement on behalf of the Sri Lankan government.
He is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with several senior diplomats in Geneva. A special meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk is planned, providing an opportunity to present the new government’s initiatives, progress, and future plans on human rights protection, following one year in office since the NPP government assumed power.
Minister Herath will be accompanied by Dyani Mendis, Director-General for the UN and Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the session. (NewsWire)
