Iran has denied targeting Azerbaijan after authorities said drones flying from Iranian territory struck the Nakhchivan region, damaging an airport building and injuring civilians.
Officials in Azerbaijan said several drones entered the Nakhchivan exclave early Thursday (5), with one hitting the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport and another landing near a school in a nearby village.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi rejected the allegation.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has not targeted the Republic of Azerbaijan,” Gharibabadi said in remarks carried by Iranian media. “We do not target our neighbouring countries.”
He said Iran’s policy is to strike only the military bases of its enemies operating in the region and used to launch attacks against Iran, including those linked to the United States and Israel. (NewsWire)
