The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has asked former MP Eran Wickramaratne to relinquish his party membership following his recent appointment to head Sri Lanka Cricket’s Transformation Committee.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the party has accepted Wickramaratne’s resignation from its Working Committee and Management Committee, but has also formally requested that he step down from the party altogether.
The decision is in line with the SJB’s policy of not allowing politicians to hold positions in sports governing bodies.
Wickramaratne was earlier appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage to chair the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, which has been tasked with carrying out administrative and structural reforms in the country’s cricket system.
The Minister has stated that the committee is not an interim body, but one focused on long-term transformation, and will function until fresh elections are held. (Newswire)
