An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had to return to Hong Kong mid-flight after a suspected technical issue.

The passenger jet – the same type as the aircraft involved in last week’s tragedy in Ahmedabad – was bound for New Delhi but turned back after the pilot raised suspected an issue, an Air India spokesperson told Sky News.

It’s not yet known what the suspected technical issue flagged by the pilot.

Flight AI315 took off from Hong Kong at 12.16pm and landed just over an hour later, according to tracking data on Flightradar24.

An Air India spokesperson told Sky News that the airline hasn’t yet established if there was a technical issue but the pilot suspected something.

“We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption,” the spokesperson added.

The aircraft is now undergoing checks, Reuters reported. (SkyNews)
