An Indian national has been arrested while attempting to smuggle 8.542 kilograms of Kush, valued at Rs. 85 million, through the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka on a SriLankan Airlines flight on Saturday morning (13) and was waiting at the airport to board a return flight to Madurai, India. During a routine baggage screening by SriLankan Airlines officials, suspicious signs were detected, prompting further inspection with the assistance of a police sniffer dog named “Randy,” which indicated the presence of narcotics.
Upon examination, officials discovered 16 packets of Kush weighing 8 kilograms and 542 grams concealed in the passenger’s luggage. The suspect was taken into custody along with the narcotics.
He is scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (14). The seized drugs and the suspect will then be handed over to the Colombo Police Narcotics Bureau headquarters for further investigations. (NewsWire)
