A motorcyclist arrested for assaulting another rider with a helmet in Kuliyapitiya recently has been identified as a registered criminal in Sri Lanka, the Police said.
According to DIG W. P. J. Senadheera, who oversees Traffic Control and Road Safety, investigations revealed that the suspect is a resident of Kuliyapitiya.
He was subjected to a drug test, during which further inquiries confirmed his criminal record.
DIG Senadheera said the suspect remains in custody, and the Police are continuing investigations into his background and involvement in the assault.
The suspect was arrested based on CCTV footage, which showed him striking another rider at the Kuliyapitiya Meegahakotuwa junction while travelling with a woman. (Newswire)
